Graffiti is a criminal offence and can result in a criminal record, fines and/or penalties. The City is active in removing graffiti, which comes at an enormous cost to the community.

Graffiti needs to be removed quickly to discourage vandals from targeting the area again

Graffiti removal

The City removes graffiti free of charge, where the graffiti is visible to the public.  There is a limit of $400 per incident and $1,200 per property per year. Please note the graffiti must also be reported to the police. The police photograph graffiti and hold the photos as evidence and may lay charges if they catch an offender.

The City does not remove graffiti from business properties unless it is offensive. Offensive graffiti, that is of a rude or racial nature is given priority and the City’s contractors aim to have all graffiti removed within three working days.
