When you’re young, getting started in a job is hard and it’s particularly difficult when you don’t have any experience or contacts. Getting a job can be like a double-edged sword: you need experience to get a job but without a job you can’t get any experience.
To help young people (16 – 24 years) get their foot in the door, the City of Cockburn has started building relationships with local businesses to provide training and work experience opportunities. This means professional training, experience, skill development, references and a good looking resume.
In December, the City partnered with Mooba Café in Cockburn Central to deliver an Introduction to Barista Training course. Five young people were taught coffee basics including grinding, dosing, tamping, extraction and milk texturing onsite at Mooba over 2.5 hours. More Barista Training Programs coming soon in 2017.
